Canada Immigration Program Seeks to Hire Skilled Refugees to Tackle Labour Shortages

In a news release, the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to launch a new economic program as part of the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot  (EMPP). This new government economic pathway will allow firms to hire qualified refugees and other displaced people to fill positions in high-demand fields.

This program is consistent with Canada’s global leadership in labour mobility and refugee resettlement. The EMPP connects qualified migrants, including refugees, with Canadian businesses. Additionally, it gives EMPP applicants the ability to continue their lives and careers in safety in Canada with their families while increasing the opportunities for employers to fill in-demand positions. The new federal track, which will start to be offered in the summer of 2023, will complement the current EMPP methods.

In order to meet employers’ demands for a diverse pool of talent and to address labour market shortages, Canada has expanded the EMPP. As displaced people start over in their lives and careers, they contribute to local economies, enliven communities, and fill labour market gaps in Canada.

The initiative will provide skilled refugees and other eligible displaced people with the chance to live safely and start over. It is anticipated that the new federal approach will streamline the procedure and increase accessibility for employers across Canada. The new approach will be essential for expanding the program and giving firms access to much-needed talent.

The EMPP works with seven NGO partners to connect qualified refugees abroad with firms that are facing a severe labour shortage. After receiving a job offer, prospects can apply for immigration to Canada under the country’s current regional economic program.

Candidates can apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residence using EMPP measures that remove obstacles that refugees may encounter as a result of their displacement when the relevant province, territory, or community authorizes the application. Under the new federal pathway, there will only be one application to fill out, making the application process simpler and quicker.

Applications are often approved within six months, allowing applicants to relocate to Canada and begin working right away.

Employers will have more opportunities to fill a variety of in-demand positions thanks to the new pathway, including those for teachers, tourism and hospitality workers, truck and delivery service drivers, software engineers, web designers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and long-term care aides.

The EMPP initiative gives displaced people an opportunity to begin their professions and live in safety with their families in Canada while also assisting employers in meeting their labour market needs.

The EMPP initiative’s expansion shows Canada’s dedication to being a world leader in immigration and labour mobility. Canada’s employers have suffered from hiring issues as a result of severe labour shortages in a number of industries, including long-term care.

The EMPP assists Canadian firms in accessing a global talent pool of talented workers, providing candidates with long-term solutions, and managing workforce shortages. The EMPP’s utilization is now included in several organizations’ long-term HR strategies.

In the end, the extension of the EMPP initiative will allow Canada to continue to lead the world in labour mobility and refugee resettlement. The strategy helps businesses deal with labour shortages while giving skilled refugees and other displaced people a chance to start over in Canada. The new federal approach will streamline the application process, enabling displaced individuals to travel to Canada and begin working more quickly and easily.

The plan would also make sure that any business can use the EMPP if they so choose, making Canada a hub for recruiting talent that has been displaced internationally.

In the coming weeks, the EMPP webpage will provide more information on the new federal pathway, including qualifying criteria.
